Visual Basic starting and types of Applications
You can start Start Visual Basic by selecting Start >> Program >> Microsoft Start Visual Basic 6.0 >> Microsoft Start Visual Basic 6.0 Doing this causes to display the following window.
Types of Applications ( Projects ):
Following six types of applications can be developed in Visual Basic.
Standard EXE:
Standard EXE application is common to all versions of Visual Basic.
ActiveX DLL:
ActiveX DLL is used to build those programs i.e. DLL files, which which have no visible interface, can't run alone and have some special functionality as ActiveX DLL, but both are packaged into different Dynamic Link Libraries or executable files. This project creates public classes that can be accessed by other programs or can run by it.
ActiveX Control:
ActiveX Control application is used to build new custom controls also called OCX file, which can perform special functions and visible interface.
VB Application Wizard:
VB Application Wizard project is used to provide a new skeleton for an application ( similar to word processor template ).
VB Wizard Manager:
VB Wizard Manager is used to build a new wizard. A wizard is a sequence of windows, which calls information from the user.
Data Project:
Data Project is like standard EXE project but it adds those controls which are use in accessing database.
DHTML application:
DHTML Application provides facility for the development of dynamic HTML pages with the use of Visual Basic tools. It can develop those pages, which are displayed in the browser's window on a client computer.
IIS Application:
IIS Application builds those pages, which are run on the web server. actually this option creates a project that can be used with windows NT's internet information server ( IIS ) to run in a web-based development.
Addin:
Add-in is used for the creation of new add-in for the Visual Basic IDE. e.g. Visual Data Manager.
ActiveX Document DLL:
This type of project creates a DLL that can be used by application within Microsoft internet explorer.
ActiveX Document EXE:
This type of project creates an application that can be run inside Microsoft internet explorer.
VB Enterprise Edition Control:
This option simply creates a new standard EXE project and loads all tools of Enterprise edition.
